Mach9 Drops “Robotics” From Its Name and Raises $34 Million for AI CAD

Mach9 announced a $34 million Series A on Wednesday, October 21, co-led by First Round Capital and Bessemer Venture Partners. Prudence, which invests in AI software for construction and real estate, and existing investor Quiet Capital also participated.
Alex Baikovitz co-founded Mach9 Robotics in 2021 to give civil engineers a faster, cheaper way to run visual inspections. The company built the hardware within a few years, but customers kept saying equipment was not the constraint. “The real pain was in their workflows,” Baikovitz told TechCrunch, so the company dropped “Robotics” from its name.
Its AI CAD software turns survey and imagery data into a first-draft plan that engineers refine, and licensed professionals still stand behind the final deliverable because of liability. Mach9 says it is about 10 times faster and substantially cheaper than doing the work by hand in legacy tools from Autodesk and Bentley Systems, which Baikovitz put at about a week per mile. Those are company claims.
Nearly 100 customers are in the private beta, and the software has been used on more than 2,500 projects. The money will go to product, hiring industry experts and scaling the organization.
