Kagi Opens Search to Visitors Without Accounts, With 50 Free Searches

Kagi announced on November 5, 2026 that its search engine is open to people without accounts. The company’s changelog entry, “Search for everyone,” says “anyone, anywhere, can now visit kagi.com and search the web.” The entry reached 681 points on Hacker News.
What Kagi says
- Guests get 50 searches without an account: “No account required for the first 50 searches (100 more upon registration).” The entry does not say how limits reset or how long the trial lasts.
- A banner marks guest searches and links to login. The entry says the guest “explore flow” “offers a degraded experience compared to your paid plan.”
- The entry says Kagi runs no ads and relies on word of mouth, and it asks readers to spread the word.
- The entry does not mention pricing for the guest tier or for paid plans.

The entry also says Google plans to turn off AI tools by default for school accounts starting in early 2027, which the entry says also switches off Google Search for those accounts, and it links Kagi’s open letter titled “Education Shouldn’t Be Held for Ransom.” Lens reported on Google’s school plan in an earlier post.
