Huawei’s rotating chairman Eric Xu said on October 1 that its Ascend AI accelerators now lead Nvidia in China on sales and market share, while adding that Huawei has no near-term plan to challenge Nvidia globally, according to Digitimes.

IDC figures reported by Reuters point the other way for the first half of 2026: Nvidia shipped 678,000 AI accelerators in China, compared with 572,000 for Huawei. The two claims may rely on different metrics or periods; the sources do not say.

In the IDC data, non-GPU accelerators outshipped GPUs in China for the first time, at 1.016 million units versus 991,000, and Moore Threads led Chinese GPU vendors with about 56,000 units.
