US Bans First Devices Under New Chip-Level Rule, Citing a Huawei HiSilicon Chip

The US Federal Communications Commission has banned a dashboard camera and a wireless video transmitter from being sold and marketed in the US because they carry a surveillance chip from HiSilicon, Huawei’s chip-design unit, according to Tom’s Hardware and Digitimes.
It is the first time the FCC has used a new rule targeting devices whose chipmakers are deemed national security risks. The rule took effect on October 13, and HiSilicon and its parent company are on the FCC’s Covered List.
