Apple says more than 100,000 apps built for the iPhone Duo are live on the App Store, with thousands more added daily, according to TechCrunch, which reported the milestone on November 6, 2026. Early reviews of the foldable iPhone, which starts at $1,999 for the 256GB model, criticized it for lacking Duo-optimized apps at launch, per the report.

Apple’s announcement

  • Apple announced the milestone alongside more than a dozen newly Duo-ready apps, including Microsoft Word and Outlook, Zoom, NBA and NHL apps, Etsy, Goodnotes and the Halide Mark III camera app.
  • Netflix, YouTube, Instagram and WhatsApp were already optimized for the Duo before this update.
  • Apple also listed more than 40 additional apps updated for iOS 27 and optimized for the Duo, including Spotify, ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • According to Apple, more than 2,000 developers attended more than 50 in-person workshops in 19 cities, where they could use the Duo and work on their apps with Apple’s support. TechCrunch says the article does not describe any formal developer requirements.

What unoptimized apps look like

Per TechCrunch, unoptimized apps display a black bar at the side of the screen that uses up space, and sometimes hide key functions in an overflow menu. The reporter says not all of the listed updates have fully rolled out: on their review unit, Spotify still showed the black bar and the App Store showed no update available, though they expect the updates soon because Apple provided the list.

Supply

TechCrunch says the Duo sold out within hours of orders opening and that ship times have moved into next year. On its earnings call, Apple said it is “hard to predict” when the constraints behind the delays will improve.

Apple’s statement

Susan Prescott, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations, said, “It’s been wonderful to see how quickly developers have embraced iPhone Duo,” and described the enthusiasm as incredible.
